This week, the LetzRise team had the pleasure of conducting the third module of storytelling training with the dynamic leadership team of HopeGivers. With around 15 passionate participants in the room, the energy was palpable — a true testament to the power of purpose-driven storytelling.

Warming Up with a Vision- The session kicked off by revisiting the Story Vision Documents created in Module 2. As each group proudly showcased their vision, a wave of excitement and ownership spread across the room. These documents weren’t just paper — they were proof that stories were taking root. To gauge the group’s mindset, the facilitator initiated a “temperature check,” asking each participant to rate their current energy and engagement. The collective score hovered around 7 out of 10 — curious, open, and ready to go deeper.

Reactivating the Narrative Loop

The facilitator brought everyone back to the foundational structure of storytelling — the Narrative Loop. While a few participants confidently recalled the elements from Module 2, others needed a nudge. That’s when the hands-on magic began.

Participants were divided into three groups: Alpha, Beta, and Gamma. Their mission? Build the Hook and Challenge of a compelling story — the first two critical pillars of the narrative loop.

The Anatomy of a Strong Hook and Challenge

The facilitator guided the groups through the anatomy of what makes a hook truly gripping:

  • Introduce the protagonist (or impacted community) in their current context — who they are, where they come from, their struggles, hopes, and reality.

  • Use the “Story of One” approach to humanize the narrative.

  • Highlight urgent challenges they face and why a solution can’t wait.

  • Infuse the story with empathy, contrast, and emotional depth to help the audience walk in their shoes.

Exhibition of Stories: Learning Through Observation

Once the groups completed their storytelling exercises, the room transformed into a creative gallery. Pages filled with powerful hooks and raw challenges were displayed on the walls. Participants took a storytelling tour — reading, reflecting, and discovering nuances in each other’s work.

The group reconvened, and each participant shared what resonated most. The collective insight? Everyone felt more equipped, more inspired, and more emotionally connected to the stories they were preparing to tell — especially when pitching for fundraising.

As a cherry on top, the best-performing group received a small gift — a token of recognition for their creativity and commitment.

From 7 to 10: A Shift in Energy

At the beginning of the session, the average engagement score stood at 7. But by the end of the day, as the participants reflected on what they had learned and created, the score unanimously shot up to 10 out of 10. That’s transformation in action.

Onward to Module 4

Next week, the HopeGivers team will dive into the final stretch — exploring Solutions, Impact, and Next Steps to complete their storytelling arc.

Stay tuned as we continue this journey — where stories aren’t just told, they move hearts and open doors.
